Rumi

Be Like the Sun

A short contemplative Rumi teaching on generosity, concealment, anger, and inner spaciousness.

Why return to it: It reads like a set of spiritual instructions: shine, shelter, forgive, and move with depth.

Source note: Included as an open-source-friendly reading page with short traditional text, transliteration, and an original plain-English poetic rendering for this site.

Original / source text

Be Like the Sun

Be like the sun for grace and mercy; like the night to cover faults; like running water for generosity.

Be Like the Sun

Dar mehr o muruvvat chun āftāb bāsh...

Poetic English rendering

Be Like the Sun

Be sunlight when mercy is needed. Be night when another person’s fault needs covering. Be water when generosity asks to move.
