Kabir
A poem of radical nearness: the sacred is not elsewhere, not delayed, not hidden behind performance — it is as intimate as breath.
Read it slowly. The force of the poem is not in argument, but in subtraction. Kabir keeps removing the places where we expect the divine to be until only immediacy remains.

मोको कहाँ ढूँढे रे बन्दे, मैं तो तेरे पास में। ना तीरथ में, ना मूरत में, ना एकांत निवास में। ना मंदिर में, ना मस्जिद में, ना काबे कैलास में। ना मैं जप में, ना मैं तप में, ना मैं व्रत उपवास में। ना मैं क्रिया-कर्म में रहता, ना ही योग संन्यास में। नहीं प्राण में, नहीं पिंड में, ना ब्रह्मांड आकाश में। ना मैं त्रिकुटी भंवर गुफा में, सब श्वासों की श्वास में। खोजी होए तुरत मिल जाऊँ, एक पल की तलाश में। कहे कबीर, सुनो भाई साधो, मैं तो हूँ विश्वास में॥
English Transliteration
Moko kahān ḍhūṇḍhe re bande, main to tere pās mein. Nā tīrath mein, nā mūrat mein, nā ekānt nivās mein. Nā mandir mein, nā masjid mein, nā Kābe Kailās mein. Nā main jap mein, nā main tap mein, nā main vrat upvās mein. Nā main kriyā-karam mein rahtā, nā hī yog sanyās mein. Nahīn prāṇ mein, nahīn piṇḍ mein, nā brahmāṇḍ ākāsh mein. Nā main trikuṭī bhanvar gufā mein, sab śvāsõ kī śvās mein. Khojī hoye turat mil jāū̃, ek pal kī talāsh mein. Kahe Kabīr, suno bhāī sādho, main to hū̃ vishvās mein.

موکو کہاں ڈھونڈھے رے بندے، میں تو تیرے پاس میں۔ نہ تیرتھ میں، نہ مورت میں، نہ ایکانت نواس میں۔ نہ مندر میں، نہ مسجد میں، نہ کعبے کیلاش میں۔ نہ میں جپ میں، نہ میں تپ میں، نہ میں ورت اُپواس میں۔ نہ میں کریا کرم میں رہتا، نہ ہی یوگ سنیاس میں۔ نہیں پران میں، نہیں پنڈ میں، نہ برہمانڈ آکاش میں۔ نہ میں ترکٹی بھنور گفا میں، سب سانسوں کی سانس میں۔ کھوجی ہوئے تو فوراً مل جاؤں، ایک پل کی تلاش میں۔ کہے کبیر، سنو بھائی سادھو، میں تو ہوں وشواس میں۔
English Translation
Where do you search for Me, seeker? I am right beside you. I am not in pilgrimages, nor in idols, nor in solitary retreats. I am not confined to temples, mosques, Kaaba, or Kailash. I am not found through chanting alone, nor through austerities, vows, or fasting. I do not dwell in rituals, nor in the renunciation of the world. I am not hidden in the body, nor somewhere in the vast cosmos. I am the breath within every breath. If you truly seek, you will find Me in an instant. Kabir says: Listen, fellow seekers, I am found in living faith and direct experience.
