Meera

Mere To Giridhar Gopāl

Meera’s declaration of exclusive devotion: a whole life gathered into one beloved name.

Why return to it: This is devotion as identity — not private sentiment, but a chosen way of belonging.

Included here: Hindi in Devanagari, English transliteration, Urdu, and an English translation for easier access across scripts and readers.

Hindi · Devanagari

English Transliteration

Mere To Giridhar Gopāl

Mere to Giridhar Gopāl, dūsaro na koy. Jāke sir mor mukuṭ, mero pati soy. Chhāṛi daī kul kī kāni, kahā karihai koy. Santan saṅg baiṭhi-baiṭhi, lok-lāj khoī.

English Translation

Poetic English rendering

Giridhar Gopal is mine; I belong to no other. The one crowned with peacock feathers is the only beloved my heart will name. Let family honor fall where it may; what can the world take from one who has already given everything? Among the saints, Meera set down shame and chose the freedom of love.
