Kabir

Mālā Pherat Jug Bhayā

A critique of ritual without inner change: the hand moves, but the mind stays where it was.

Why return to it: Kabir points from the beads in the hand to the knot inside the heart.

Included here: Hindi in Devanagari, English transliteration, Urdu, and an English translation for easier access across scripts and readers.

Hindi · Devanagari

English Transliteration

Mālā Pherat Jug Bhayā

Mālā pherat jug bhayā, phirā na man kā pher. Kar kā mankā ḍār de, man kā mankā pher.

English Translation

Poetic English rendering

You have turned the rosary for ages, yet the mind has not turned once. Put down the beads in your hand; turn the hidden bead of the heart.
