Meera

Māī Rī, Main To Līno Govind Mol

Another famous Meera voice: intimate, conversational, and utterly unafraid of devotion’s cost.

Why return to it: The address to “mother” makes the declaration feel personal and immediate.

Included here: Hindi in Devanagari, English transliteration, Urdu, and an English translation for easier access across scripts and readers.

Hindi · Devanagari

English Transliteration

Māī rī, main to līno Govind mol. Koī kahe chhāne, koī kahe chupke, liyo bajantā ḍhol. Koī kahe mahaṅgo, koī kahe sasto, liyo tarājū tol. Mīrā ke prabhu Giridhar Nāgar, janam-janam ke bol.

English Translation

Poetic English rendering

Mother, I have bought Govind with the whole wealth of my heart. Some say I traded in silence; some say I bought him with drums sounding in the street. Some call the price too high, some call it too small — I weighed it in love and paid gladly. Meera says: Giridhar is the treasure earned through many births.
