Kabir

Burā Jo Dekhan Main Chalā

A compact lesson in humility: the search for fault ends at one’s own doorstep.

Why return to it: One of Kabir’s most frequently remembered dohas, sharp because it turns judgment inward.

Included here: Hindi in Devanagari, English transliteration, Urdu, and an English translation for easier access across scripts and readers.

Hindi · Devanagari

English Transliteration

Burā Jo Dekhan Main Chalā

Burā jo dekhan main chalā, burā na miliyā koy. Jo dil khojā āpnā, mujhse burā na koy.

English Translation

Poetic English rendering

I went looking for fault in the world and found no one beyond redemption. Then I turned the lamp inward, and there I met the one most in need of grace.
